Angular contact ball bearings are matched in a universal combination. Any pair of bearings are provided with a model suffix to indicate internal clearance (CA, CB, CC) or preload (GA, GB, GC). When any pair of bearings are arranged and installed close to each other, a certain internal clearance or preload and/or uniform load distribution can be obtained without the use of gaskets or similar devices. When ordering, it is necessary to state the number of individual bearings required, not the number of bearing sets.
When the load capacity of single-row bearing is not enough, it shall be installed in pairs (in tandem configuration); or when the load is a composite load or the axial load acts in two directions, the paired installation (back-to-back and face-to-face pairing) shall be used.
In the tandem configuration, the load lines are parallel, and the radial and axial loads are evenly shared by the bearings. However, the bearing group can only bear the axial load acting in one direction. If the axial load acts in the opposite direction, or if there is a composite load, three bearings must be added to adjust the bearing in series.
The load line of a back-to-back pair of angular contact ball bearings is separated from the bearing shaft. It can bear the axial load acting in two directions, but the load in each direction can only be carried by bearings. Back-to-back bearings provide a relatively rigid bearing configuration and can withstand overturning moments.
The load line of the face-to-face paired bearing converges to the bearing shaft. It can bear the axial load acting in two directions, but the load in each direction can only be carried by bearings. This configuration is not as rigid as the back-to-back pairing and is not suitable for the overturning moment.
It also has advantages when the bearings of the general assembly and single bearing are used together. Most bearings are SKF Explorer series, so they have higher accuracy, load capacity, and speed.
