The sealing of rolling mill bearing plays an important role not only in the hot rolling mills but also in cold rolling mills. This is because the working condition of the rolling mill is very bad. It is not only necessary to prevent the metal oxide scale on the surface of hot-rolled products from being immersed behind and other foreign bodies from invading, but also from the penetration of the cooling medium. Otherwise, the working condition of the bearing will deteriorate rapidly, the lubricating oil film will be destroyed, and the bearing surface will be worn quickly, and then pitting and spalling will appear rapidly when the bearing is serious, which will greatly reduce the service life of the bearing. Especially when there are hard foreign matters (including iron oxide scale) immersion, the rolling surface of the bearing will produce indentation, pad damage, and other defects, which will cause the bearing working surface to produce stress concentration at the defect and induce early fatigue failure.
In addition, if the external cooling medium invades, the bearing will rust, and the oil film on the working surface will be damaged, which will lead to premature failure of the bearing. Therefore, the bearing seal of the rolling mill plays a very important role in improving the bearing life. Usually, the sealing form of the bearing on the rolling mill is installed on the bearing box and roll neck, but the sealing parts are easy to be aged and damaged in the work, which leads to failure.
For the sealing of rolling mill bearings, attention should be paid to the following items:
1. Select the appropriate sealing form and structure.
2. For rubber seal material, NBR can be selected generally, but when the working temperature is higher than 200 ℃, high-temperature resistant fluororubber should be selected (Note: fluororubber will produce harmful gas when the temperature is higher than 300 ℃).
3. Pay attention not to damage the sealing device during the installation of roller bearing.
4. The service life and storage period of rubber seals shall not exceed 2 years, otherwise, aging and deterioration will occur and the sealing effect will be affected.
In recent years, the design of bearing self-sealing has been widely used in the application of a rolling mill sealing structure, and its application effect is obviously better than the original sealing capacity. At present, this kind of sealing form is gradually popularized and applied in the metallurgical industry.
