What are the benefits of Preloading for bearings?

What is bearing preload? Generally, the rolling bearing has a certain clearance in the working state. But in order to achieve a specific purpose, in the configuration of the bearing, through a certain adjustment method to make the bearing obtain a certain internal load to use in the state of negative clearance, this use method is called preload.

What are the benefits of Preloading for bearings? For rolling bearings, proper preloading can have the following benefits:

1. Improve rotating accuracy. After the bearing is preload, the internal clearance is eliminated. Each rolling element bears a certain preload, and supports the ferrule from all directions, which can improve the rotation accuracy, make the shaft position correctly both in the axial and radial direction, and improve the rotation accuracy of the shaft, such as the spindle bearing of the machine tools and the measuring instrument.

2. Increase stiffness. The contact between the rolling element and the raceway is elastic, so the rolling element can be regarded as a spring. For bearings with clearance, there are only a few springs in the direction of the force. After preloading, the bearing has spring support in all directions and has a certain amount of preload. The rolling number of bearing loads is more than that with clearance, so the stiffness can be improved. For ball bearings, the relationship between the contact deformation of the ball and the groove and the load is nonlinear. With the increase of preload, the contact stiffness increases.

3. Improve bearing's service life. After preloading, the number of loaded rolling elements increases, and the load on each rolling element decreases. At the same time, the load I can be evenly distributed on each rolling element, so the bearing life can be improved.

4. Improve the damping of the bearing and reduce the noise. Preload can build up a stable oil film between the roller body and the raceway, improve the resistance between the roller body and the raceway, and improve the dynamic characteristics of the supporting structure and reduce the noise.

5. Improve the dynamic performance of angular contact ball bearing. In the high-speed rotating angular contact ball bearing, proper preloading can prevent the steel ball from spinning, prevent or reduce the spin slip of the steel ball, and control the spin slip of the steel ball.

6. Restrain vibration and friction wear. In fact, the outer spherical bearing is a variant of the deep groove ball bearing, which is characterized by the fact that its outer ring outer diameter surface is spherical to fit into the corresponding concave spherical surface of the bearing seat to play the role of centering. The external spherical bearing is mainly used to bear the combined radial and axial load, which is mainly the radial load. Generally, it is not suitable to bear the axial load alone. It can be used in low roughness machining machines without vibration marks, or in the mechanism which often starts and stops to control friction and wear.

7. Control the rolling body rotation and spin slip. This kind of bearing is easy to install the sealing device with double structure and can work in a bad environment. The bearing seat is generally cast. Bearing with seat is a high-precision component product composed of grease sealed deep groove ball bearing and bearing seat of various shapes. The bearing assembly can be directly installed on the main body of the mechanical device through several bolts, which has the function of adjusting the center and can supplement the lubricating grease. It is a very simple product for installation and use. For example, the radial thrust ball bearing used in the high-frequency motor and the cylindrical roller bearing on the jet engine.

8. Compensate for wearing in operation. The bearing will increase the clearance due to wear in operation, which can be compensated by preloading.
